The Zoo.
The Zoo is one of the oldest live music venues in Brisbane, opening its doors in 1992. The Zoo has ‘hosted the likes of The Pixies, Gomez, Tortoise, Trans Am, Mogwai, Nick Cave and the Dirty Three, Ben Harper, Silverchair, Regurgitator, Spiderbait, Powderfinger, Emilaini Torrini and hundreds – if not thousands – of other local, national and international artists and special events’ (The Zoo 2013). ‘In any week you could see anything from beats, hip hop, jazz, rock, and pop to acoustic, folk, dub and reggae’ (Facebook – The Zoo 2013).

X & Y Bar.
‘The venue is a bar first and foremost, which will showcase live music seven nights a week, seven nights of sound. The owners are serious about emerging bands, emerging DJs and creators of sound and hope to work with Brisbane’s upcoming musicians to give them a place to play and call home’ (X & Y Bar 2013).

The Bowler Bar.
‘The Bowler Bar is located on Brunswick Street, underneath the Tempo Hotel. This downstairs club has an “industrial chic” theme, with stairs leading to a small, yet spacious room with limited lighting where you can socialize, pick up, or dance the night away’ (The Bowler Bar 2013). ‘The music is a fusion of indie-techno, which suits the crowd Bowler Bar draws in’ (The Bowler Bar 2013).
‘The Bowler Bar draws in young hipster/indie demographic’ and ‘like most clubs in Brisbane, Bowler Bar accommodates the 18 – 25 crowds’ (The Bowler Bar 2013).
